The Differences

Collection and line are often misunderstood as fashion terms that are interchangeable. A fashion line refers exclusively to all the clothes that a fashion designer produces for a specific group in his/her fashion company, while the collection produces seasonal styles in different styles.

The Importance of Creating Collection

“You are as good as your latest collection!” This is a phrase you often hear in the fashion industry. Collections are found in clothing design within the line. In fact, a product line may consist of several collections. A company may have multiple lines defined by gender, lifestyle or price, while having 6 collections or more. Women’s, men’s and ball gowns are considered as a line. The clothes that are displayed in each of these categories during the show for a particular season constitute the collection.
